Psychological and Behavioral Consultation

As a parent, are you feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, discouraged? Sometimes children display negative behaviours because they don’t know how to communicate what they want or need. A child with or without a diagnosis may not know how to get these needs met, so he/she resorts to negative behaviours.

The good news is that something CAN be done to teach your child new skills so that he/she is able to self-regulate their emotions, communicate their needs, and learn positive ways to interact with others.

Experienced in areas of behaviour management, we work with families by offering consultative supports to both parents and staff. We establish behavioural and developmental programs in collaboration with both parents and the professionals involved in your child's treatment team.

The main focus of the programs are around developing appropriate social skills, replacing negative and explosive behaviours, emotional regulation, and enhancing community inclusion. Many of the children we work with are typically diagnosed with anxiety, ADHD, FASD, ODD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related emotional/ behavioural disorders.

In-Home Supports (Medicine Hat,Alberta)

What is a Family/Child Coach? How does it fit in with Consultation?

Family and Child Coach: As part of Psychological Consultation, your family may benefit from an in-home family coach. A coach provides skill building opportunities for your child in the home and/or in the community. Under the supervision of a Psychologist, they follow a treatment plan that can be designed to work on social skills, behavioural management, emotional coaching, community engagement and/or overall regulation skills in the home. They can work directly with your child and other family members involved. This service is invaluable as it provides extra guidance and support for children who really struggle with implementing and generalizing strategies often learned with your therapist in a clinic setting. This role is also an important element of working with children with developmental disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder as it allows extra practice of developmental skills. Please contact us for more information.

Consultation Services in BC (Coquitlam and Tri-City Area)

Although we do not offer the Family Coach support in our BC office, we do offer Psychological Consultation by one of our Registered Psychologists, Carolina Hall. Trained originally in ABA (right here in BC), Carolina uses the foundation of behavioural strategies, along with a play based approach to develop a treatment plan that will assist your child socially, behaviourally and emotionally. She works together with your home team to collaborate on best practice strategies and works along side parents to support in their learning and experience.
