Counselling For Adults

Many individuals decide to come to therapy as they are suffering through life with distressing symptoms. These symptoms can lead them to feelings of hopelessness, depression, anxiety, and sometime even suicidal thoughts. Through the use of therapy, we can help you feel more confident in making the necessary changes to end suffering and live your life to the fullest.

The foundation of our work with adults include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Client Emotion Focused Therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy.

With our background in play based therapy, we are always motivated to use art and even play based activities (sand tray) to facilitate sessions. We know that play can help restore brain chemistry and cause the whole brain to operate in a more efficient way. It brings enormous depth to the process of therapy. This is of course discussed with each client and methods only used if client is open to a different way of communicating and processing. We see the benefits of both talk and play therapy and whatever is the best fit for the client is the best fit for us!

Specific Concerns may include:

Grief: Death of a loved one. Feeling stuck/alone. Loss of self (identity)

Trauma: Break-ups, childhood events, accidents, trauma

Mental Health: Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Eating Disorders, OCD, Phobias, Anger Managment

Life/Career: Work/Life Balance, Separation, Divorce,Life Goals, relationship issues, confidence

What Should You Expect on Your First Appointment

During your first session, we attempt to gain an understanding of the reason(s) you are currently seeking therapy. As such, we will encourage you to talk about the sorts of challenges that you’re now facing in your life. To aid in the understanding of your situation, you will be asked a number of questions. Some of these questions will likely pertain to your life as it exists today, and possibly explore the various experiences you’ve had in the past, especially those you feel are relevant to the issues you are currently addressing. Toward the end of your first session, we will work together to develop a set of goals for therapy. Our relationship is always collaborative and one built with trust and genuine care.
