Adult Autism Assessment in BC and Alberta
If you have spent years feeling different, exhausted or misunderstood, an assessment can help you finally make sense of it. Thoughtful, neuroaffirming assessments for adults in Coquitlam, Medicine Hat and online.
It is never too late to understand yourself
Many autistic adults were missed as children, especially women, gender-diverse people and those who learned to mask, copying others and hiding their differences to get through school and work. Masking can work for a while, but it often comes at a cost: burnout, anxiety, depression or a constant sense of not fitting in.
In British Columbia there are no publicly funded autism assessments for adults, so a private assessment is the way to get answers. Our Registered Psychologists offer adult autism assessments that are respectful, thorough and focused on your strengths as well as your challenges.
Adults often reach out when they notice
- Social situations feel like hard work, even when they go well
- Needing a lot of recovery time after work, events or conversations
- Strong need for routine, predictability or clear instructions
- Sensory sensitivities to noise, light, textures or crowds
- Deep, focused interests
- A history of anxiety, depression or burnout that never fully explained things
- A child or relative has recently been diagnosed and it sounded familiar
What the assessment includes
- A detailed interview about your history, from childhood to now
- Standardized tools, which may include the ADOS-2, chosen to fit adults
- Questionnaires for you and, if you wish, someone who knew you as a child
- Screening for related experiences such as ADHD, anxiety and mood
- A feedback meeting to talk through what we found
- A written full report or summary letter, depending on the option you choose
Two options for adults
Full report
A comprehensive written report with detailed findings and recommendations. Useful for workplace or school accommodations.
$3,290
Summary letter
The same assessment process, with a shorter diagnostic letter instead of a full report.
$2,820
Autism plus psychoeducational
When you also want to understand learning and cognitive strengths.
$4,700
Flat fee, usually paid in three instalments. Many extended health plans cover part of the cost of an assessment by a Registered Psychologist.
