Teen Counselling in Coquitlam, BC & Medicine Hat, AB
Adolescence brings rapid change: physically, emotionally, and socially. Some teens move through it with ease. Others hit real turbulence: mood swings, withdrawal, conflict at home, or a shift in how they see themselves.
At Creative Minds Consulting, we offer teen counselling in Coquitlam, BC and Medicine Hat, AB, with virtual sessions available across both provinces. Our approach is neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and client-centred; every mind is different, and those differences are valuable. We meet teens where they are, using evidence-based and play-informed methods to help them build resilience, emotional awareness, and healthy coping skills.
We also work alongside parents, not around them, to strengthen communication and support stronger family connections during this stage.
What Is Teen Counselling?
Teen counselling is a form of talk and behavioural therapy designed specifically for adolescents, distinct from both child therapy and adult counselling. It gives teens a private, non-judgmental space to work through what they're facing, using approaches suited to how teens actually communicate and engage.
It's normal for teens to feel some resistance to the idea of "going to therapy." Our team leans on play-based and collaborative techniques to build trust early, and we're upfront with teens about what to expect: sessions are goal-oriented and time-limited, not open-ended. Most teens find that once they're in the room, it's easier than they expected, and many come to see a handful of sessions as something that benefits them, not just something their parents wanted.
Outcomes we work toward with teens include:
Better coping skills for anxiety and low mood
Stronger communication with family and peers
Increased self-esteem and confidence
A clearer sense of their own identity and strengths

Meet Our Teen Counselling Team
Teen counselling at Creative Minds is delivered by our Coquitlam-based team, supervised by Carolina Hall, Registered Psychologist (AB #5032, BC #2829) and Certified Play Therapy Supervisor with 20+ years of experience in child, teen, and family mental health. Carolina splits her time between our Coquitlam, BC and Medicine Hat, AB offices, so families in both locations are working with the same clinical oversight.
Kaitlan: Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA, 2020), M.Sc. Applied Behaviour Analysis (St. Cloud State University, 2019). Kaitlan has worked in autism and neurodiverse support since 2011 and brings a cross-trained ABA and clinical mental health lens to her work with teens.
Brie: Registered Social Worker (MSW, UBC Okanagan), registered with the BC College of Social Workers, with play therapy certification in progress through the Canadian Association of Play Therapy. Brie's background includes trauma, neurodiversity, and work with youth in complex family situations.
Both work under an all-inclusive care model. If a teen would also benefit from an assessment (autism, ADHD, psychoeducational) or behavioural consultation, our team can coordinate that directly, without a referral to an outside provider.
Areas We Serve
